One of the icons of the film Ghostbusters 1 is the Stay Puft marshmallow man. Dott. Ray Stantz “The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man! He was on all the packages we used to buy when I was a kid. We used to roast Stay-Puft marshmallows at Camp Waconda”

Thanks Bryan for allowing William to “Ghostbusters Italy ‘to ask you some questions. We are particularly

grateful for your kindness.

I feel proud to be able to claim Staypuft on my resume. People smile when they think of the Marshmallow Man. This makes me happy.

Linda Frobos sculpted the Head and William Bryan fabricated the costume of the Staypuft Marshmallow Man in “Ghostbusters”.

The art department produced drawings of the Marshmallow Man. It was my job to duplicate those drawings as a costume.

The Head, hands, feet and the hat were sculpted in clay, then molded and cast in foam latex. The body was constructed of scotfoam stretched over an egg shaped L200 form.

Arms and legs were scotfoam.

The bib was scotfoam that was flocked for the soft texture and color.

We made 18 costumes, and burned 17 of them.

I don’t know where the ‘hero’ suit is today.

I was careful to make the costume comfortable , because I knew I would be wearing it. It was hot inside the costume, but I built it like a bellows.

When I waved my arms, fresh air would flow through the mouth, keeping me cool.

We built the costumes and the scenes shot for twelve weeks.

Since each scene needed a special suit with the zipper hidden from the camera (either front-or back-sight view or side view), and because we burned a suit for every shot, we were unable to complete a suit until we knew what shot it would be for.

I read the script on my first day at work and I laughed all the way through it, so I knew the film would be a good one. This knowledge made the experience very positive for us all.

The best memory is the moment in the projection room, when we saw how the costume appeared on film. Suddenly we were confident that our work was successful.

Often, when I admit that my claim to fame is Mr. Staypuft, people do not believe me.

But then I do the walk, and suddenly they say, ‘It’s true! “

Today, with the video game, and rumors of GB3, I think Mr. Staypuft is even more popular than it was 20 years ago.

Una delle icone del film Ghostbusters  è lo Stay Puft. Il dott. Ray Stantz “Non c’è niente di più soffice e dolce di quei candidi gnocchi di lichene!”

Grazie William Bryan, per aver concesso a “Ghostbusters Italia” di farle alcune domande. Siamo particolarmente grati per la vostra gentilezza.

Mi sento orgoglioso di essere in grado di rivendicare lo Stay-Puft sul mio curriculum. La gente sorride quando pensa al Marshmallow Man. Questo mi rende felice.

Linda Frobos ha scolpito il capo e io ho inventato il costume del Marshmallow Man in “Ghostbusters”. Il dipartimento artistico che ha sviluppato i disegni del Marshmallow Man. Duplicare questi disegni e farne un costume è stato il mio lavoro. Il capo, le mani, i piedi e il cappello furono scolpiti in argilla, modellata e poi gettata in schiuma di lattice. Il corpo è stato costruito di scotfoam teso su un uovo a forma di L200. Braccia e gambe erano di scotfoam. Il bavaglio era di scotfoam che poi è stato floccato per darne la consistenza morbida e il colore.

Abbiamo fatto 18 costumi, e bruciato 17 di loro.

Non so dove sia il “l’ultimo vestito”  oggi.

Sono stato attento a rendere confortevole il costume, perché volevo che lo fosse indossandolo. Faceva caldo all’interno del costume, ma l’ho costruito come un mantice. Quando ho salutato con le mie braccia, l’aria fresca scorreva attraverso la bocca per tenermi fresco.

Abbiamo costruito i costumi e le riprese delle scene per dodici settimane.

Dal momento che ogni scena aveva bisogno di una speciale tuta con la cerniera nascosta dalla fotocamera (sia vista di fronte o vista da dietro e vista laterale) e perché abbiamo bruciato un vestito per ogni scatto, siamo stati in grado di completare un costume fino a che non si otteneva quello giusto per me.

Ho letto la sceneggiatura del mio primo giorno di lavoro e ho riso per tutto il tempo, dato che sapevo che il film sarebbe stato buono per me. Questa conoscenza ha reso l’esperienza molto positiva per tutti noi.

Il ricordo più bello è il momento in sala di proiezione, quando abbiamo visto come il costume è apparso su pellicola. Improvvisamente eravamo fiduciosi che il nostro lavoro abbia avuto successo.

Spesso, quando ammetto che la mia fama è il Sig. Staypuft, la gente non mi crede. Ma poi ho fatto la passeggiata, e improvvisamente mi dicono, “E ‘vero! “

Oggi, con il video gioco, e le voci di GB3, credo che il signor Staypuft sia ancora più popolare di quanto non lo fosse 20 anni fa.

Questi episodi fanno parte del mio progetto personale. Mi dispiace, ma non sono stati ancora tradotti in italiano. Spero vi piacciano comunque.
